  New Survey

Anyone else get the email with a link to the new EMV reservation survey?

"Please take a moment to fill out this brief survey. The survey results will help us better decide future product considerations, and understand what motivated you to become a reservation holder.
Three respondents will be selected at random to receive an Electra Meccanica t-shirt and license plate frames. We thank you for taking the time to collaborate with us on producing the best EVs imaginable!"

If you've got a reservation and you didn't get the email, contact EMV and tell them you want to participate. Also, make sure to sign up for the newsletter and updates at the site.

The link above is inactive because it's the link that contained my personal identifying code to determine who my individual survey was for.

These screen shots from the new video would be more useful if as suggested earlier Jerry would put some soccer balls in the frunk and trunk Rolleyes .

Hello everyone my name is Joe and I've been following Elio for many years and actually started a show on YouTube called Let's Talk Elio. I've had the pleasure to meet Jerry Kroll when they invited me to Vancouver. Seeing and driving the car totally made me a believer. I would like to share with you my experience. BTW I've also reserved a Solo. If you would like to see my journey go to YouTube and search joeker88. Thanks guys.

Reason #47 To Like Solo EV
Posted by: pogson - 07-23-2017, 10:55 PM - Forum: General Solo Discussion - Replies (2)

There's just so much to like about Solo:

  • riding close to the road
  • efficiency in air-drag, energy consumption per km
  • low maintenance
  • made in Canada
  • nice shape
  • simplicity..
  • low price
  • cargo space
I had a reminder today why I want a Solo. A family member has had some issues with his ICE stumbling. After several trips to the shop at great expense, it was decided that a change of spark plugs was in order. The usual shop quoted $700 CDN plus taxes to change six plugs. After searching on YouTube, we figured we could do the job and bought a set of plugs for $50.

Then the fun began. It was a hot day so we drove the vehicle into the shade of the garage and followed the steps after waiting an hour for the engine to cool :
  • remove engine cover
  • remove several hoses going to/from the intake manifold
  • remove the air-intake filter
  • remove six mounting bolts for the intake manifold
  • remove a few other bolts preventing free movement of the loosened manifold
  • slide the intake manifold a couple of centimetres either way to allow access to six spark coils
  • remove spark coils
  • remove the plugs
  • install new plugs
  • go backwards through the list to the top
Three hours later, we had determined that no parts nor tools were out of place and started her up. It ran roughly for a few seconds. We started it again and raised the RPM sharply and everything hummed/roared/drowned out whatever slight noise a Solo's drive might make.

BTW, two of the six old plugs had cracked insulators near the gap/tip, probably causing some of the problems we've been seeing. Also, two of the bolts we had to remove/loosen were in very tight spots requiring quite a bit of ingenuity to get a wrench on them. Some videos actually showed removing the windshield wipers to allow access to one of those bolts. We just used a bit of a pry-bar judiciously...

This reminded me of how much I love Solo and want Solo as soon as possible. I'm just tired of all the slavery ICEd vehicles entail. I want the freedom to plug in Solo and to forget about dozens of niggling wasteful/useless tasks an ICE demands. Solo should demand a minimum of maintenance: checking brakes and tires and washer fluid and state of charge. That is like a picnic in the park on a spring day compared to the toil and expense of ICEd vehicles. Amen for rotary electric motors. Boo to reciprocating parts, rattling and rolling, stench of hot oil and exhaust, and all that noise. I won't miss it at all.
